Summer Camp with Danny Massero 4th – 8th Augus

“Squash Improvement Week”
with Danny Massaro
Heswall Squash Club 4th – 8th August 2008

A five day programme of training activities specifically designed to improve each player’s game.

You will practice under Danny’s guidance from 9.30am until 4pm every day with 90 minutes break for lunch. Danny is keen to make sure that by the end of 5 days work with him, you are a better player than you were at the beginning of the week.

Learning involves immediate and permanent changes and this is what you will be coached to achieve in this week. You will have lots of fun and you will also be pressed to improve yourself. Danny values improvement more than anything else and his best strength is checking this out in you, so there is a serious side to this week.

What will you achieve from the week?

By the end of the week you will:

• have made technical improvements to your swing
• have better understanding of how to play tactically
• have increased your mental toughness
• have increased your squash learning power (creativity, resilience, self belief, game understanding, motivation, curiosity)
• have lots of practice ideas to go away with to help you develop all of the above.
• have a personal plan to take back to your coach or use on your own for the next 6 months
• have hit thousands of squash shots!

What will you do during the week?

You will
• get one to one time with Danny on court and off court where we will also look at some video footage of your swing and play.
• play matches, practise routines, complete fitness work
• coach your fellow players
• take notes and build a diary of your week
• design your own special shots and practices.
• set personal goals for your next 6 months training

Price: £180 for the week (£36 per day) This represents outstanding value given the fact that usual rate is £30 per hour for individual coaching.
Places: Only 12 places available on the week.

Booking: Please send application form AND parental consent form with cheque deposit (made payable to HSRC) of £50.00 to Dave Beecham. Places allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Wirral Cup Finalists: Kathyrn keeps Heswall in the picture

Ten o clock Saturday 15th March saw junior players from across Merseyside arrive at Heswall Squash Club for the inaugural Wirral Cup. Four age groups were on court: U11, U13 Boys, U15 Boys and U15 Girls. The U11 and the U15 Girls played a Round Robin while the U13 and U15 boys each played out a 12 draw Monrad Tournament.
Following the adoption of American scoring to 11 in the PSA tour it was decided to run the tournament matches as best of three games to 11 for all age groups. An enjoyable day was had by everyone mixed in with tears of frustration and disappointment as everyone gave of their best. The four finalists in each of the age groups are shown below.

U11 Daniel Beddard (Neston) v James Connor ()
u15 Girls: Kathryn Keighley (Heswall) v Georgina Swift (New Brighton)
U15 Boys: Dan Prescot (New Brighton) v Alex Berry()
U13 Boys: Patrick Rooney () v Will Kynaston (Northern Crosby)

The finals will take place at New Brighton on Saturday 5th April: exact timings to be announced.

Many thanks to the players at Heswall and New Brighton who despite having no children involved in the tournament gave up their Saturday to referee. A very big thank-you to Oliver Dumbleton, Ken Wilson, Mike Beecham, Ken Wilson, Craig Beecham, Robert Jones and John Knight. Many thanks also to all the parents who gave up their Saturday to bring young players to the tournament. Finally thanks to all the players -winners and losers- who played their matches with enthusiasm and in good spirit. Its great to see youngsters enjoy squash!
